Sagmeister & Walsh Get Robbed

Introduction

They say that imitation is the best form of flattery, but achos! wanted to go above and beyond our admiration for a studio like Sagmeister & Walsh by not just ripping off their work, but by actually stealing it. Achos! experiments with the internet by imitating the format of a famous blog, fabricating a robbery story, and spreading it like wildfire via social media.

Concept

The idea for this personal project began way back when we were at the university and were intrigued by Sagmeister & Walsh’s innovative live-streaming homepage. With a little Photoshop magic, we created a video of us ‘stealing’ the WORK banner off of their studio floor. You see, we’re aiming for the top creative work in the world by any means necessary. We then launched a completely fabricated Creative Review article about the “robbery” with our footage, and started sharing it via social media.

Execution

Within just 6 hours, the news had reached New York City, and Sagmeister & Walsh gave the world a tounge-in-cheek response to the theft. We finally met Ms. Walsh a few days later at Sitges Next and returned her WORK. We launched a believable but completely fake Creative Review article about the “robbery” with our footage and started sharing it via social media through friends. Within 6 hours, the news had reached New York City, and Sagmeister & Walsh had given the world a tongue-in-cheek response to the theft.
